"I don't want to innovate" - Said no PM ever
Product Managers want to innovate, but don't have the time. AI can help give it back.
Product Managers don’t have time to innovate.
Product managers want to innovate. It is why they got into this career.
But the reality is, that few have the time. Study after study shows that PMs spend less than 20% of their time on innovation.
The rest goes to meetings (20%), firefighting (20%), and routine tasks like writing requirements, crafting metrics, analyzing data, etc., (40%).
Some PMs are now turning to AI to assist with routine tasks.
While AI can’t do much to reduce meetings or firefighting (yet!!). It offers immense potential to save time on routine tasks.
For example, forward-thinking PMs are now using AI to:
Write requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria 10x faster
Analyze customer feedback without sifting through endless transcripts
Craft GTM artifacts, value propositions, and press releases in minutes.
And this is just the beginning. As a product coach, I've guided PMs in leveraging AI for over 30 tasks.
For example, trailblazing PMs are seeing an 80% time reduction by using AI.
Take Jason B., a participant in our coaching program, who experienced an 80% time savings when using AI for crafting user stories.
Before AI (8+ hours, 2 weeks span):
Jason invested 8-12 frustrating hours over 2 weeks to write stories.
Despite the effort, engineering was rarely satisfied with the quality. Jason felt overwhelmed, frustrated, and disheartened.
With AI (1 hr total):
Now Jason spends just 1 hour (video).
The AI generates clear, concise, well-formatted suggestions (prompt). He simply picks and edits the best ones. Engineering loves the output. And Jason feels empowered, energized, and genuinely satisfied.
The benefit:
7 hours of time savings
Velocity improvement from 2 weeks to just 1 hour
Higher engineering satisfaction
Increased PM productivity and morale
With PMs no longer being bogged down by routine work. Their calendars are now freed up for innovation.
Jason’s experience is not unique. AI can help boost PM productivity across 30+ tasks.
So, when faced with a PM task next, initiate it with AI.
It will get you there 10x faster, and save you a ton of time, so that you can (finally) redirect the time to building better products.
Happy building!!
